Keep in mind here, I’m no expert I’m just sharing the things I know. To this end, I’m looking to learn about scansion. I want to have better control of rhythm over my work. But, for older and wiser me, subconscious command isn’t good enough, anymore. I am a poet, it turns out my prose draws its power from an almost subconscious command of poetic language. Lately, perhaps under the influence of a significant other, I’ve been getting back into writing poetry. Eventually, I got bored of free verse - as one does - and stopped writing poetry in any sort of “serious” way, mostly because I wanted to focus my effort on work I could get paid for. You can’t just put together a 10-syllable line and call it “iambic pentameter”.īut I was a kid without any real knowledge of line construction or ways to find information about it. This is thanks in part to its edge-sweeping tool, which helps to push nearby dirt particles under the vacuum so they can be sucked away by the powerful brush roll. On bare flooring, the Roomba 694 was able to pick up small sand particles and larger debris alike in a single pass, including cereal, pet hair, and human hair. That's why we rated the iRobot Roomba 694 as the best overall robot vacuum after testing this easy-to-use machine effortlessly navigated multiple floor types while collecting dirt and debris with ease. Whether your home has hardwood flooring, tile, carpets, or rugs, it's convenient when you can find a device that's versatile enough to clean all surface types in one fell swoop. ![]() It doesn't have any of the high-tech features other robot vacuums offer. Once lab testing was complete, we took the robot vacuums home, where we used the devices in our own homes for an entire month. Throughout these tests, we evaluated the vacuums for their overall quality, noise level, and ease of use before assigning individual ratings for each category. We spent two days in our lab in Des Moines, Iowa, running the vacuums on multiple floor types to see how well they picked up sand, crumbs, pet hair, and more.Īdditionally, we challenged each vacuum by creating a small obstacle course of furniture for it to navigate, placing socks and USB cables in its path to see if it avoided the objects or ran them over. We put more than 30 different robot vacuums to the test to evaluate which were the best for tackling hardwood floors, carpets, pet hair, dirt, and more. The software on these robots is trained to identify common hazards on the floor, such as shoes, socks, clothes, cords, and even pet waste." ![]() "If your home is particularly cluttered-perhaps you have children or pets-you should consider a robot vacuum with object detection and avoidance. "Purchasing a robot vacuum that takes into consideration where, when and how you want it to clean helps ensure that it does its job while you're out of the house," says Brent Hild, director of product management at iRobot. However, it's important to find a vacuum that operates quietly, doesn't get stuck, and successfully avoids obstacles in its way. Instead of dragging out your hefty vacuum to get rid of dirt, crumbs, and hair ground into the floor, the best robot vacuum cleaners will navigate around the house and clean on their own. A robot vacuum is a simple way to keep your floors tidy without dedicating your entire weekend to cleaning. ![]() Delta sigma pi stole7/13/2023 ![]() ![]() (Rush and Standard) to ensure on time arrival. In addition to an easy to use cutlist, I also generated full size patterns for the shape of the side pieces. All I need to do is click on the right points in the model with the dimension tool, and SketchUp lets me know what the real sizes are.įor me, this is the ultimate reason for using SketchUp, it speeds up the process and gets me out to the shop sooner, armed with reliable information so I don’t have to stop building to revisit the planning. The other benefit is that if I have a carefully constructed model – I don’t need to do any calculating to arrive at sizes. It is also far more useful because I can include additional information, such as the size and location of joints, and when I refer to it I don’t have to find a detail in the drawing then hunt it down in the cutlist. The elapsed time between these two screen shots is about two minutes, far less time than it would take me to write a cutlist the traditional way. Because of the way SketchUp works, this process is quite fast. Then I grab the dimension tool from the toolbar and put in the dimensions I want to see when I’m selecting material and fabricating the parts. What I’m after is an arrangement where I can clearly see the size and shape of each part. When the parts are in the model, I move and rotate them so that they are in the same neighborhood. This is a simple piece with few parts, but I use the same approach with more complex projects. After completing the model, I navigate to an empty area and drag parts of the model from the components window into the model space. I did make some prints from the model to use as a reference in the shop, but what I find useful when building doesn’t look like a traditional drawing. When I built the piece, I worked from a SketchUp model. But the reasons why these types of drawings were developed isn’t because they are the best way to communicate information, this tradition developed because this is a quick and easy way to create a technical drawing by hand and put it on the printed page. We do it this way because we’ve always done it this way, as have other publications for the last century or so. As a reader, you expect to see this form and we’ve never really questioned whether or not this is what we should print. The first image (at right) is the illustration as it appeared in print, and the second image (at left) is the cutlist published in the magazine. 74 Book rack I built for the August 2012 issue of Popular Woodworking Magazine.
